LITTER REPORTER SCHEME CELEBRATES 20,000 REPORTS
Congratulations litter reporters! Thanks to your diligent efforts the enforcement team at Keep Australia Beautiful celebrated the 20,000th cigarette butt litter infringement and the 2,500th littering infringement.
Reporter Damien Mansfield was responsible for the 20,000th report. Damien shares his litter reporting experience with Talking Rubbish:
Litter Reporter Profile
Name: Damien Mansfield
Number of litter reports processed by KAB : 15
I have been a litter reporter since: Not really sure, its been a few years.
How did you hear about the LRS: When I was a teenager a mate’s dad was a litter reporter, and going down south one time I was impressed to see him report litter, I still remember it 25 years later. It was a lit cigarette butt at night on the Bussell Hwy.
Why I joined the LRS: I hate smokers, the world is not their ash tray. Have you ever looked sideways onto the median at any major highway set of lights? It’s an absolute pig sty and the most common litter is cigarette butts, closely followed by drink containers.
If I could change community attitude towards litter I would: Fit rubber bands between the cigarette packet and the butt, that way it returns to the packet after use. Seriously, if a butt is so vile that you can't bear to have it in the car, to take it to a bin, then don't smoke.
Congratulations Damien and all litter reporters for helping KAB to reach this milestone. Want to share your Litter Reporting experience? Email your story to tarryn.truscott@dec.wa.gov.au
New and improved litter report cards
Litter reporting will be made easier with the new design of the litter reporter card.
The new card aims to make reporting easier and provide as much information as possible to enforcement staff to ensure your report results in an infringement being issued.
The new card design will be mailed to reporters by request and will replace the current cards, which will remain in effect.
Reporters are reminded to be eco-friendly and consider lodging reports online to save paper use. The online form can be found here. If you require more cards to be sent or would like to sign up as a Litter Reporter phone 6467 5138 or email kabc@dec.wa.gov.au .
